St. John’s Music Ministry

Music Ministry

The Music Ministry of St. John’s United Church of Christ reaches many individuals well beyond weekly worship services and the church itself.   Music is often referred to as a “universal” language. Over the years, the Senior Choir has evolved into a larger body of singers known as The Cantata Choir that gather twice a year for special performances. The Choir is open to individuals from the church, from the community and from surrounding areas who have a love of music and want to join their voices in praise to God. Since 1970, an annual Christmas cantata has been presented during the Advent/Christmas season and still continues. The addition of a second program with a secular theme was added in June of 2000 to further expand the music ministry of St. John’s.

THE SENIOR & CANTATA CHOIRS

Our Senior Choir numbers between 10 and 12 singers who sing praises to Almighty God during weekly Sunday morning worship. Rehearsals are typically Wednesday evenings from 7:00- 8:30 PM. Our “choir year” goes from September through June, with the months of July and August for the choir to enjoy some time off to vacation with their families.

The Cantata Choir typically numbers around 30+ singers, rehearsing Sunday evenings from mid-September to December and mid-February to June.  The Cantata Choir has attracted singers from the congregation, the community, and beyond - some by invitation, others by their personal request to be part of the group.  In December 2019 the Cantata Choir celebrated it's 50th anniversary of Advent/Christmas Cantatas at St. John's U.C.C. Over the years these presentations have evolved into the musical outreach ministry that St. John's continues today.

Both the Senior Choir and Cantata Choir are partially funded by patron contributions and offerings taken at our musical performances to continue their ministry.
